'Chrome' Settling in at Taylor Made

Dual Horse of the Year California Chrome (Lucky Pulpit) is reportedly settling in just fine at Taylor Made Stallions were he will begin his stallion career in 2017 (Video). Following his final start, an unplaced run in the GI Pegasus World Cup, the seven-time Grade I winner shipped to Kentucky on the same flight as GI Pegasus World Cup winner Arrogate (Unbridled's Song), who was returning to California, Sunday.

“He's doing well,” said Taylor Made's Stallion Nominations Manager Travis White. “Everything is fine. We turned him out Monday. He's just running around and being a horse for a couple days. We will start test breeding Tuesday or Wednesday. Depending on how the test breeding goes, he should be on the same schedule as everybody else.”

The North American all-time leading money earner and 2014 dual Classic winner will command a fee of $40,000 and is already booked full for the 2017 breeding season.

“He's basically full. We won't turn down a really nice mare, however,” White notes of the former Art Sherman trainee.

California Chrome developed a devoted legion of followers during his career on the racetrack and Taylor Made will be discussing the best way to accommodate them in the coming days.

White continued, “We will probably meet on that issue later on this week, determine the best way to handle visitors and fans. Breeders are more than welcome to stop by, they just need to give us a call.”
